Maritime reporters elect first female President

Members of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) this afternoon elected Ms Ifeyinwa Obi of Vanguard newspaper as their President.
Obi, who is the first female President in the 26-year history of the association, takes over from Bolaji Akinola. She had served as Vice President of the association from October 2011 till today.
Obi defeated Francis Ezem of National Mirror newspaper in the keenly contested election held at the International Press Centre in Apapa, Lagos.
“I was part of the sucess story of the immediate part executives of the association and I have made significant contribution in the past. With this new mandate, I promise that I will not let you down,” Obi told members of the association shortly after she was declared winner of the election.
Other elected executives include Funso Olojo of Hallmark newspaper as Vice President, John Obot of Radio Nigeria as General Secretary and Obiajulu Agu of Maritime Matters as Assistant General Secretary.
Others are Kemi Dauda of The Nation newspaper as Treasurer, Aishat Cole of NAN as Financial Secretary and Gboyega Oni of Port News as Public Relations Officer/Internal Auditor.
