Intra and inter state Mass Transit Train services on Monday morning got a boost, as Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) took delivery of more rolling stocks.

The imported rolling stocks included five 68-seater air-conditioned passanger coaches, two-16 seater rail buses and 18 five- seater motorised trolleys.

The Managing Director of the Corporation, ENGR Adeseyi Sijuwade who conducted reporters round the rolling stocks said that the corporation took their  delivery weekend at the Apapa Port, Lagos.

“The newly acquired air-conditioned coaches have been tested satisfactorily in the corporation’s workshops and are now being deployed for commissioning at Markurdi Railway station next Thursday”, he said, adding that the occasion would also marked the flagging off of the Markurdi to Port Harcourt intercity passenger services.

He further stated that in sustaining the drive, the coaches would be deployed over the next two weeks on an extension of train services from Markurdi to Gombe; passing through Lafia, Kuru, Jos, Bauchi and with a spur line from Kafanchan to Kaduna.

It would be recalled that the corporation had in April 2014 commission six-68 air-conditioned coaches making a total of 11 coaches.
