LCM: Rain of encomiums, as Fuchs gracefully bows out

Written by Maritime First

It was a rain of encomiums at the weekend as stakeholders in the Nigerian Maritime industry stood Lagos still, in a bid to celebrate the outgoing Managing Director of the Lagos Channel Management (LCM), Danny Fuchs.

Fuchs spent 11 years in Nigeria, establishing a legacy and transforming the LCM into a strong and an enviable name.

From a worthy assembly of present and past Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, operators in the energy sectors, friends and colleagues, to the most revered terminal operators, who gathered at the Lagos Lagoon Front, it was every Second, an electrifying experience.

The terminal operators said they were particularly proud of Danny Fuchs determined commitment which turned the channel from a general ship domain into a WAFMAX play-ground.

“This is the least we can do to honour a man whose effort and team spirit uplifted the channel to a height where operators can begin to make long term planning”, a terminal operator, who spoke on conditions of anonymity stated, even as the former NPA Managing Director, Abdulsalam Mohammed who flew in from Abuja, in total agreement acknowledged that Fuch deserved being celebrated.

A Lagos Channel Management (LCM) Human Resources chief, and Lagos Prince, Ifalade Oyekan in emotion laden voice chronicled how Fuchs interest in the downtrodden resulted in his yearly approval of N6m to six Nigerian motherless babies homes, orphanages and correctional Centres. It was a tradition Danny Fuchs canonized in the past six years!

He recalled how only a few months back the outgoing Managing Director also approved over N3million for the procurement of medicals to the Lagos State Emergency and Accident Centre, aside from another N2m prudently invested in some poor women, via provisions of grinding machines.

Fuchs had always maintained that the task of ensuring worthwhile societal transformation must not be abandoned to the Governments alone.

Subsequently, from the royal palace came a delegation backed by traditional drummers, who positively complimented the stage, in addition to an energetic dance presentation by youths.
