5 Africans arrested as illegal immigrants in Thailand

Five African males have been arrested in Thailand on charges of illegal entry and using fake passports, the Centre for the Suppression of Transnational Criminals and Illegal Immigrants said on Wednesday.

The five Africans included two Nigerian nationals, who were arrested in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

The three other suspects included a Guinea Bissau national who was arrested in Bangkok, a South African, who was detained in Koh Samui Island and a Cote d’Ivoire national who was arrested in Surat Thani.

According to the centre under the National Police Headquarters, they had allegedly stayed in Thailand with the use of fake passports in violation of the Immigration Act of 1979.
