Coast guards seize 4 tons of cannabis in northern Morocco

The Moroccan coast guards on Friday seized over four tons of cannabis from go-fast boats near the Northern city of Assila.

The Moroccan National Radio said the operation came after a long race pursuit of three go-fast boats, without further details.

Despite efforts in the past decade to crack down on cannabis farming, Morocco remains the world’s largest producer of cannabis resin.

According to the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime’s World Drug Report 2016, Morocco ranked first among

129 countries in terms of cannabis production over the period 2009-2014.

The country is followed by Afghanistan, Lebanon, India and Pakistan.
