UNISON MEDAL: Master of bulk carrier killed by snapped mooring line

The Master of a bulk carrier, UNISON MEDAL was Tuesday morning, killed, reportedly after being hit by broken mooring line.

The incident which occurred  at Ilo PortIlo Port, Peru, resulted in an on the spot death.

Fleetmon reports that the mooring line broke in strong wind, prompting the Master to go to fore or aft, not clear, to assess the damage.

However, while he was assessing the situation, another mooring line snapped, taking him down.

The ship was docked at Ilo since September 8, loading copper concentrate.
