Truck crushes commercial motorcyclist, passenger to death on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) stated that a commercial motorcyclist and the passenger were crushed to death on Wednesday by a truck around Kara bridge on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Mr Seni Ogunyemi, the Corps Commander of TRACE, told newsmen in Ota, Ogun, that the accident happened at about 3.32 p.m.

Ogunyemi said that an eye witness told TRACE officials that the Opay commercial motorcyclist drove against traffic around Kara Bridge outbound Lagos on the expressway, when a MAN diesel truck marked KSF 837 XV crushed both the bike rider and the passenger to death.

The Corps boss said that the truck and the Opay bike had been taken away by TRACE, FRSC and the police officials to ease free flow of traffic on the expressway.

Ogunyemi also said that the corpses of the victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital.

He advised commercial motorcyclists in the state to desist from riding against one way traffic to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property.

In another development, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has indicated that one person died while six others sustained various degrees of injuries in an accident that happened on Wednesday along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Mr Segun Adesanya, TRACE Divisional Unit Commander highlighted that the accident happened at about 10.30 a.m, noting that a Toyota bus with registration number XH 657 GMD was heading to Lagos when the steering balk joint pulled out on motion and the vehicle somersaulted in the process.

He said that the lone accident happened after Sagamu interchange on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the death of a female adult while six male adults sustained various degrees of injuries.

“The corpse of the victim had been deposited at the Idera Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun,while the survivors were also receiving treatment at the same hospital,” he said.

Adesanya said that rescue operation was carried out by TRACE, FRSC officials and the police from Sagamu Area Command to restore normalcy and ease the free flow of traffic on the highway.
