“We are very sorry to confirm that a colleague and his family have been attacked in their residence in Lagos, Nigeria during the evening of 8 December 2019”, indicated Richard Smith, adding tragically, “the wife of our colleague passed away at the scene. Our colleague is in the hospital, where his condition is critical, but stable. The 3 children are all safe and accounted for”.
The Regional Managing director of Africa for A.P. Moller – Maersk, David Williams further assured that the Company would leave no stones unturned to ensure the desired support.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathy goes to the family. We will do whatever we can to support them in this tragedy,” David Williams says, noting that the relatives of the family were already being notified, just as relevant authorities have begun detailed investigations into the incident.
The Maritime First learnt that an expatriate had a party in the building, which the Cameroonian Maersk Line Boss and his beautiful Hungarian wife attended.
But while the party which ended about 11.25pm was in full swing, the Building Maintenance/ Electrician employed only few weeks back, sneaked around the apartment, tampared with a fuse, threw the apartment into darkness; and came back to the party.
As the party ended, the Maersk Managing Director, Mr Gildas Tohouo, his wife and three wonderful children joyfully made it to their apartment, found it in darkness; and were about to send for the Maintenance man, when he appeared on their heel, alongside the guard and offered to help them fix it.
Being well known men, the wife opened the door, the duo came in and the bedlam began!
The duo allegedly pounced on the wife, stabbed her severely, moved to the husband, did exactly the same thing; and thinking they were dead, smartly sneaked back to the party and relaxed.
Luck however ran out on them when the husband recovered consciousness, and managed to send a ‘Save Our Soul’ text message, for help, to the right quarters.
About 23 minutes later, the entire street was cordoned off, even as the apartment crawled with hawk eyed security officers.
Consequently, two suspects, one Akanbi and Adegoke were promptly arrested within the premises before they could bolt away. They were later taken to the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba; where it was further learnt they were presently helping police investigations.
