Rainstorm: Saki residents commend Oyo govt. over relief materials

Some residents of Saki, Saki West Local Council Area of Oyo State, on Thursday commended the state government over the distribution of relief materials to victims of rainstorm in the area, the newsmen report.

Gov. Seyi Makinde had on Wednesday distributed relief materials to victims of rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the area months ago.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, during the distribution exercise, emphasised the importance the state government attaches to the welfare of the people.

Reacting, some residents of Saki town, who spoke with newsmen, described the gesture as a welcome development.

A middle-aged man, Mr Sanusi Kolawole, said the initiative of the government to assist victims of rainstorm with materials was well appreciated and commendable.

A community leader, Mr Isau Kakako, on his part, said the intervention of the government came at the appropriate time, adding that victims of natural disaster were usually abandoned.

A businessman, Mr Suleiman Alagbo, also commended the efforts of the state government.

“I am very happy about the fact that government came at the most appropriate time and circumstance, this is highly commendable as the new administration is giving us a sense of belonging, ” Alagbo said.

Another resident, Miss Yetunde Karim, who also thanked the state government for the intervention, however, cautioned residents against activities that could lead to disasters.
