…As Edo Police Investigates death of Vera, an undergraduate inside Redeem Church***

A Police Inspector, Monday Gabriel from 21 Police Mobile Force Squadron Abuja, but on Special duty in a Federal Government facility in Ikoyi Lagos, went berserk on Sunday and shot sporadically, killing one Sergeant Felix Okago, who was on Special duty with him.

The Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Elkana Bala who confirmed the story said Sergeant Felix Okago died from the gunshot injuries. It was learnt that others who were with them scampered for safety and escaped unhurt. The frightening event occurred around 0430 hours.

Providing the details, the Image maker stated further: “In an attempt to escape, he took a patrol van and headed towards third mainland bridge, shooting as he was escaping.

“He was intercepted by Policemen from Bariga Division along Akoka, disarmed and handcuffed. The rifle and vehicle were recovered. The corpse of the deceased Sergeant is deposited in the mortuary for autopsy while the Inspector is taken to Police Hospital for medical examination as he presented signs of mental depression.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the investigation to take over the investigation”, Elkana explained further, noting the Command’s deep sorrow as it condoles with the family of the fallen colleague.

In the meantime, the Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident that led to the death of one Vera Uwaila Omosuwa, last Wednesday, the 27th of  May, 2020, while studying inside the Redeem Christian Church of God at Amadasun Street, Ohovbe, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.

According to the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ikpoba Hill Divisional Headquarters, Benin City, a complaint was made by one Elder Johnson Omosuwa of No. 3, Michael Avenue, Ohovbe Quarters, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City that his daughter by the name Vera Uwaila Omosuwa, aged 23 years old was attacked and wounded by unknown hoodlums while she was studying inside the Redeem Christian Church of God at Amadasun Street, Ohovbe, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.

Immediately, the DPO mobilized Police operatives to the crime scene in the company of the victim’s father, Elder Johnson Omosuwa, where the Police found at the scene, the victim in her pool of blood.

Promptly, photographs of the scene were taken, recovered a fire extinguisher cylinder which the hoodlums used in inflicting injuries on the victim and the fingerprints on it were lifted during a preliminary investigation while the victim was rushed to Enoma Hospital, Ogbeson Quarters, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City for treatment.

On the 28th of May, 2020, the management of Enoma Hospital referred her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City for further treatment.

Vera, according to the father later gave up the ghost on Saturday night, the 30th of May, 2020 at UBTH, Benin City.

The Edo State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the story said the Edo State Police Commissioner has ordered for the transfer of the case from Ikpoba Hill Division to the State C.I.D., Benin for discreet investigation, assuring that the Command will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of the dastardly act are apprehended.

He also called on the general public to come up with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums, even as pleaded with the public to remain calm, because justice will be done in the matter.
