The Government College, Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA), Lagos Branch has adopted a proposition by it’s executive committee to hold its forthcoming elections and meetings in hybrid form, in order to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Consequently, an Electoral Committee already constituted at the GCUOBA, Lagos Branch meeting of 16th February 2016, with highly revered membership, comprising: Dr. Mathew Eshalomi as Chairman, Dr. Jerry Nwankwo and Arco Boss, Engr. Alfred Okoigun as Members has been saddled with the task.
According to GCUOBA, in a statement made available by Dr. Mathew Eshalomi to the Maritime First, Participation in the elections shall be either by nomination or indication of interest by would-be contestants.
‘’The outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic and its impact on society necessitated the design of a new order for the conduct of our affairs as an OBA.
The Branch adopted a proposition by the executive committee that the forthcoming elections/meetings be conducted in hybrid form in order to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic”, Dr. Eshalomi remarked further, adding that the Committee will organise the election at the AGM, scheduled for Sunday 16th May, 2021.
On nominations, the OBA also endorsed self-nominations but insisted that it must be submitted to the Electoral Committee ahead of the elections.
“A nomination will only be valid if the candidate obtains, fills and submits completed application forms to be provided.
CASTING OF VOTES
“The registration and casting of votes which shall be done physically and online, shall start at 2:00 pm and end at 3:30 pm.
“The voting register shall be created from the financial membership register of the branch. Then, codes would be assigned to each financial member, with which to vote.
“Details of the voting process shall be communicated to members ahead of the Election Day, Votes shall be counted immediately after closing of voting and winners announced promptly”, Dr. Eshalomi also explained, before highlighting election protocol presented below:
