There is a strong indication that the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) may want to honour heads of Government parastatals in the maritime industry, and is seeking public inputs to this effect.
A statement made available on Thursday by the NAGAFF Headquarters Specifically urged stakeholders to send in their structured assessment and views of the Comptroller General of Customs, Hamid Ali; the NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman and the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council, Hassan Bello.
“We hereby urge the public and private stakeholders to come back to us with their stakes and classification of this gentleman officer who in our opinion earned honor, integrity and respect for himself in the past before his appointment as the Comptroller General of NIGERIA Customs Service, a highly technical Federal institution.
“We urge you to speak to us from two prong approach. Col. Hamid Ibrahim Ali (Rth) as an individual person and Col. Hamid Ibrahim Ali (Rth) as the head of a Government Agency, the Nigeria Customs Service and his administration”, the NAGAFF statement indicated, adding:
“We shall also implore you to, in that order, tell us your opinion about the current MD of Nigeria Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman; the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Shippers Council, Barr Hassan Beilo; and the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Adeyeye, who may not have visited our approved entry points to see things herself and yet her officers are deployed to the ports and borders of Nigeria.
“Note that your honest input shall help us to conclude our research work for GOVERNMENT to make an informed decision under the circumstances in our entry points.
“You are at Liberty to tell us any other thing you think may help the GOVERNMENT to make an informed decision in relation to ports and borders administration and management”, the body said, recalling that President Muhammadu Buhari, appointed Ali about six years ago with a mandate to reform, restructure and enhance revenue collection functions of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in addition to other ancillary functions.
“Time frame is two weeks from 9th of May 2021, to submit your informed opinion to the office of the Special Duty Officer, NAGAFF HQRS, 2a, Maybin Street, GRA. Apapa, Lagos Nigeria”.
