Sunshine Stars’ quest for NPFL survival suffer setback after home draw

Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi on Sunday defeated visiting Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia 1-0 in a 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in a Match Day 33 fixture.

The newsmen report that, following the victory at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Wikki Tourists are now placed 14th with 39 points from 33 matches.

Abia Warriors however failed to convert several scoring chances in the first and second halfs of the game.

Speaking after the match, Abdullahi Bura, Head Coach of Wikki Tourists, expressed his happiness at his team’s performance.

“It was a good match, the team played very well and I am very proud of my team.

“At the end we got the three points which I am sure made our day in the match.

“We are going to look at some pockets of mistakes by the team, to see how we will correct them before the next match,” he said.

Imama Amapakabo, the Head Coach of Abia Warriors, also commended his players in spite of losing the match, saying “it is a match you must either win and lose”.

He however said he has always had confidence in his players, having put up a wonderful performance.

“I know the type of players I have. They are good. I have 18-year-old boys in the team and they did their best, which I appreciate,” he said.
