The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) says work will begin at the site of Katsina Textiles and Garments Park in November.

Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, Managing Director of NEPZA, made this known on Thursday when the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, visited him in Abuja.

Adesugba said the park was part of the three Special Economic Zones (SEZs) scheduled to be completed in 2022

He said the project, which would be located in Funtua, would ensure job creation, reduce youth restiveness and insecurity as well as boost the state’s economy.

The NEPZA boss said that about N20 billion had already been budgeted for six Special Economic Zones across the country towards repositioning the nation’s economy.

He explained that Special Security Department would be established in all the zones to ensure effective protection of lives and property of investors within the Special Economic Zones.

Adesugba said that three fire fighting trucks had already been purchased for safety in Kano and Calabar Free Trade Zones, as well as the headquarters of NEPZA in Abuja.

The managing director commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari towards developing Special Economic Zones in the country.

He called on state governments and relevant stakeholders to key into NEPZA’s economic programmes to spur economic development in the country.

Earlier, Yakubu said the Katsina State government had provided land for the project.

Yakubu said that necessary security arrangements had been put in place for the success of the project and commended NEPZA for its support.

He said that the state government was ready to key into the Special Medical Economic Zones programme of the authority, to further strengthen healthcare delivery.
