… As Kwara police rescue kidnapped twin children of traditional ruler, 3 domestic staff***
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have confirmed that 11 persons lost their lives in a Road Traffic Crash (RTC) on Sunday.
The Kwara Sector Commander, Corps Commander Jonathan Owoade, who confirmed this to newsmen in Ilorin, said that the crash occurred on Jebba-Bode Saadu road.
Owoade said that the crash involved a private Toyota Corolla with registration number AAA 250 CB and a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LAP 179 XA.
He said while 26 people were involved in the crash, 15 persons were injured and 11 persons lost their lives.
“This evening we received a distress call of a crash which happened around 4 p.m at Onipako village, along Bode-Saadu-Jebba road.
“The RTC occured as result of wrongful overtaking; 26 persons were involved, 15 were injured and unfortunately 11 others lost their lives.
“This is another unfortunate crash we pray not to witness again. I plead with motorists especially commercial drivers to be patient when they are on the wheel.
“Life has no duplicate,” he said.
The sector commander said that the injured persons have been taken to Jebba medical centre and Emmanuel Hospital, Jebba, while the corpses have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
Owoade said the obstruction caused by the crash had been cleared and there is free vehicular movement.
In another development, the Police Command in Kwara has rescued the kidnapped twin girls and three domestic staff of Oba Samuel Adelodun, the Owalobo of Obbo Ayegunle, in Ekiti Local Government area of the State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, disclosed this on Sunday in Ilorin.
He said that the kidnappers, under intense pressure from the forces of the Command’s Tactical Teams and the vigilante group and local hunters, had no option than to abandon their victims and escaped into the bushes.
He added that the victims were thereafter rescued unhurt, medically examined, found healthy and handed over to their families.
According to him, efforts are still being intensified to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
“The feat, as usual, was made possible with the confidence reposed in the Kwara State Police Command, the support of the families of the victims and the collaboration of vigilante and local hunters of the area and his royal Highness the Owalobo of Obbo Ayegunle.
“Command is pleased to inform the members of the Public of the successful search and rescue operations conducted in the kidnap incidents involving the twins and three domestic staff on October 14, 2021.
“Confidence building patrols and stop and search procedures by men of the command were ordered in the area by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Tuesday Assayomo,” the PPRO said.
He assured the citizens and residents of uninterrupted security and safety of their lives and property at all times.
The newsmen recall that the twins, Taiye and Kehinde, their driver, simply name Kunle, Security: Lawrence Abiodun and the Maid: Bukunmi Akanbi, were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Oct. 14 while coming from school in Omu-Aran.
