Court dissolves 5-year-old marriage over husband’s drinking habit

A Shari’a Court in at Magajin Gari, Kaduna on Monday dissolved the  five-year-old marriage between Hauwa Isah and Abubukar Idris, over the drinking habit of the husband.

Delivering a ruling, the  Judge, Malam Muhammad Shehu-Adamu, pronounced the dissolution of the marriage and separated the two.

Isah, prayed the court for a divorce, on grounds that Idris,  drinks a lot and does not provide for her.

In his defence, Idris who did not deny the claims, said: ”It is true that I take alcohol but I make sure I provide for her before I drink”.

Isah, who resides in Sabon Gayan area of Kadun,  presented witnesses in court on Aug. 26, who confirmed that Idris was an alcoholic.

“This is not the first time he promised to stop drinking. He has refused to keep to his promise,’’ she said.
