A Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that a carpenter, Ugochukwu Eze, be remanded in prison for alleged robbery.
Delivering the ruling, the judge, Yahaya Sheshi, granted a 38-year-old driver, Tofiki Ahmed, bail in the sum of N900, 000 with one surety resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Sheshi also ordered that the surety must provide two recent passport photographs, driver’s license or national identity card and a printout of the bank verification number (BVN).
He said according to the First Information Report before the court, Ahmed, who was arraigned alongside Eze, was not directly linked to the robbery charge.
He, however, ordered the Police to prepare a fresh First Information Report regarding Ahmed. He then adjourned the matter until Jan. 26 for hearing.
The Police charged the defendants with criminal conspiracy and robbery and they pleaded not guilty.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, said that a team of detectives attached to the Crack Squad, Gwarinpa Area Command, Abuja, were on surveillance patrol on Nov. 25 along Wuse Zone 4, when they intercepted a Toyota Camry car and arrested Eze.

He alleged that two of his accomplices, however, escaped.
He added that the police rescued two victims of Eze from the car, who were robbed of one cell phone and money.
The prosecution counsel further alleged that the car that Eze was arrested in, belonged to one Isah Atokolo, who was robbed of the car on Nov. 24 along Gwarinpa Express road.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.
Nwafoaku said in the course of police investigations, the second defendant, Ahmed, was arrested for allegedly belonging to another gang.
He added that a search warrant was conducted in Ahmed’s house and no exhibit was recovered.
