Hassan Bello Charges NSC’s Cooperative Society On Values, Innovation

Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shipper’s Council (NSC) Barr.  Hassan Bello has enjoined the management of NSC Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited to continue to imbibe the specific values and principles required to be ever-evolving, adapting, innovating and developing to a greater height.

He said this at the Cooperative’s 24th Annual General Meeting (virtual)  which was tagged: The Need For Accountability And Transparency In Administering Public Fund During And Post COVID-19 Era.

Hassan disclosed that he has taken a keen interest in the Cooperative’s activities since the Augean Stable of the society was cleaned and what he has seen and heard so far and even attested to by the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperative has been a responsible, participative and transparent leadership that has put its ideals and energy at the service of all and acting in favour of all.

“Today, the cooperative society faces the future with energy and maturity and  I enjoin you to have a vision that should encompass not only economic but social and environmental dimensions, this I believe will help to broaden the developmental experiences of the cooperative society as well as constitute and bequeath a unique and worthy heritage.”

Bello who is also part of this rejuvenated society which has not only kept its pioneering spirit but has responded with constancy to the needs of the staff by engaging always and again for cohesion,

commended the services of the present leadership team which speaks impressively through the financial performance matrix for the year.

He emplored them not to allow the tempo wane but to continue to imbibe the specific values and principles required to be ever-evolving, adapting innovating and developing to greater heights.

The financial performance matrix of society reveals that there was a surplus increase of N34 million in 2019 relative to N21 million in 2018 which translate to 60.8 per cent, while the Net assets closed year with a growth of 47.9 per cent year on year.

Mal. Bashir Ambi-Mohammed, the President of the Cooperative assured members that no investment will be made on any venture whose outcome is uncertain.

He further appealed to NSC management for a more spacious office in order to keep sensitive financial documents safe.

Mal. Bashiru also assured members that his executives will not succumb to pressure from Polysonic shopping mall alleging that the Cooperative is owing it,  describing the allegation as an exercise in futility because it lacks merit.

He was greatful to God for guidance and strength-giving to them to manage people’s hard-earned contributions.

He also appreciated the Management of the Nigerian shippers’  Council, the Lagos State Director of Cooperative Services, Apapa Area Officer and committed members of the Cooperative for their support.

He explained that this year’s AGM was done virtually due to the scourge of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic which necessitates social and physical distancing.

He emphasized the importance of safety and the need to adhere to all COVID-19 approved guidelines and protocols as stipulated by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) and Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in conducting meeting at the moment and called for a minute silence in honor of departed colleagues who were alive during the last AGM.

On Finance, he said through the understanding, support and cooperation of members the Cooperative now has #307,370,446.93 compared to #30,442,770.89 which was in the Cooperative’s purse on 19th April, 2017 when they took over the helm of affairs.

The President list some of the Scorecard of the Cooperative which includes; Increase in net surplus, Cost-cutting policy, Financial stability, Financial palliative, Automation of the Cooperative account, E-dividend, Office and employment of staff, Children education loan, Investment, Training among others.
