…And arraign restaurant manager for allegedly stealing employer’s N8m***
The police on Wednesday arraigned four men in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly swindling Jumia International of N14.9 million.
The police charged Fatai Lasisi, 30; Saheed Adebayo, 39; Olusegun Oladosu, 29 and Gbolahan Akinyetan, 28, with conspiracy, obtaining goods under false pretences and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the defendants committed the offence between February and July, during which they, and others, at large, conspired and defrauded Jumia International Ltd to the tune of N14.9million.
Ayorinde alleged that the defendants fraudulently ordered goods using different names and locations and refused to pay.
The offence, he said, contravened the provision of sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
After the charge was read to them, they pleaded not guilty.
Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing while section 314 attracts 15 years for obtaining goods under false pretences.
Magistrate Mrs B.O Osunsanmi who adjourned the matter until Oct. 16 for hearing, admitted them to bail in the sum of N1million each with two sureties each in like sum.
Osunsanmi ordered that all the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidences of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

In another development, the police also on Wednesday, arraigned a restaurant manager, Nosa Okupoji, in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N8 million from his employer.
Okupoji 25, whose residential address was not given, is charged with two counts of theft and breach of peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, Cpl. Godspower Ehizoba, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between December 2018 and August 2019, at about 8 a.m and 9.30p.m. at No.18B, Emmanuel Abimbola Cole St., Victoria Island Lagos.
Ehizoba alleged that the defendant stole N8 million from a restaurant, Delta Pot Cuisine.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 168 (d) and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 168 (d) provides six months imprison as punishment for breach of the peace while Section 287 (7) provides seven years imprison as punishment for stealing
Okupoji, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate M.F. Onamusi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties must be a related to the defendant and must be gainfully employed.
Onamusi adjourned the case until Oct. 8 for mention.
