…Describes the ANLCA Secretariat as dreamed ‘Legacy’, thanking those who joined him to make it happen!***
The immediate past National President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu this week highlighted how he expended N3.5 million personal savings, providing a befitting Secretariat for the Association, only a week, after his emergence as ANLCA arrowhead.
Shittu made the observation in Lagos, praying for the greater progress of the Association, even as he declined to comment on the soaring challenges presently stifling the body, lest it is misconstrued as criticizing the current executive body, grappling with a tethering organization.
The Maritime First visited his office to inquire about why he allegedly left only N140,000 in the association’s purse, even though he bequeathed on the membership, a multi-million dollar Secretariat complex, which he described as dreamed ‘legacy’.
He maintained that every leader comes to the office, with his own unique style, stressing that his own was to assiduously work for peace amongst members, even if such style demands he visited them, to ensure peace reigns.
Talking on the building of the Secretariat, a feat thought inconceivable by several members.
“There are people who hated me (because of the Secretariat), for doing things they could not do!”, he explained, stressing that, because there no formal, or entrenched forms of fundraising, he had to rely on identifying those who shared his vision and pleaded with them to voluntarily support him, especially by cash. He not only got their support but the voluntary support multiplied, because every nickel and dime received, was accounted for.
Yet, this fact notwithstanding, he had also visited the EFCC offices in Port Harcourt and Abuja, to formally provide answers to even the most innocuous questions, in respect of the Complex.
He thanked every member who supported the dream, stressing that he actually wanted to also be a one-tenure National President like his predecessors, but for the yet to be completed Secretariat; and his fear that anyone who succeeded him, might not share his vision, in respect of the ongoing building project.
“I have been taken to ICPC, I have been taken to EFCC over this Secretariat, and there was no money that comes to ANLCA that was not accounted for!… But, I always know that God always vindicates the just.”

Asked what prompted him into developing a secretariat, he said he was uncomfortable, like a few other members, with the recurrence of seeing the association thrown out of every apartment it rented, by disappointed landlords, over unpaid rents.
Prince Olayiwola Shittu insisted that no Secretariat workers were owed while he was at the helm of affairs, noting that sometimes, he borrowed to pay their salaries.
