The Bible tells us Pontius Pilate did his directly: took the bowl of water and publicly washed his hands off Jesus blood (Matthew 27 vs 24). Buhari did his in a most subtle manner: publicly asked the unrepentant Governors, “How do you sleep, with your workers, unpaid?!”
Men build Karma for themselves. Sometimes through ego. Sometimes through ignorance. But most often, it is through absolutism of power.
The Jews told Pilate: let His blood be upon, not only on their heads, but even also their children. We learnt when God required of Abel’s blood from Cain, the fellow, in spite of his legalistic mind and argument, ended up a fugitive. Till today, it is still hotly argued, particularly amongst Africans, if it was not ‘that’ blood that Hitler came for…!
Men create Karma daily. And the law, if understood, says whatever a man sows he reaps! And if he commits suicide so as to escape the long arm of the spiritual sanctions, he is obviously re-routed, to come back and pay in full, even as his wards and children are also pinished, more so, to the third and fourth generations. The Book must come back, balanced!
Outside the Bible, the Bhagavad-gita counsels to neither pity the living, nor the dead. And stretching the ‘gita’ further, in the Science of Self Realization, AC Bhaktivendata Swami Prabhupada speaks about reincarnation. If the law is well understood; several Nigerians would not come back as human beings!
The Governors, like the President, have read The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli. But, Buhari knows the limitations of ambition and the principle of the End, justifying the means!
President Muhammadu Buhari
Publicly, Buhari asked the Governors: how do you sleep, knowing your unpaid workers are still devastated, hungry and hopeless? Alas! Nigerians had not finished ruminating over his question, when news break, that a top civil servants, a Director on Level 16, had actually committed suicide, over unpaid 11 months salary!
The poor man went to school. He read, obtained good certificates, the type of which may even be better than some of the hedonistic governors. A very hardworking man, his only misfortune was that his loving wife gave birth to triplet.
In other climes, such would call for optimal celebration. But not, in a terrain, where Governors, even after collecting bailout funds twice, recklessly declined to pay their workers!
There’s a whole lot of difference between being humane and being a human being.
A Stoic President, what the Governors told Buhari may no longer be important. What is more important, is that many of them are still owning the helpless workers. Until now, it was a thing of pride to serve in the Civil Service.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki
Salary was guaranteed. Respect and integrity was their strongest shield. And at retirement, a lump sum of mouth watering gratuity, followed monthly, by regular pension payments. Then…the epicurean politicians came; and woe betides the Civil Service!
In the meantime, may someone help us intimate the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali to stop seeing democracy and the democratic activities in terms of warfare and battle fields! While his admonition on good governance is sincerely commendable, his methodology and process of accomplishment is totally and pathetically wrong!
Pity, if this is also the best advise Mr. President is consistently fed!
And perhaps, another good reason to keep praying for the President. Besides the fact, that he is actually surrounded by many epicurean Governors!
May the President live forever!!
