2 dead, 2 rescued in boat mishap in Kano State

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that two persons died and another two persons survived a boat mishap at Zangon Durgu Village in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Monday in Kano.

“We received a distress call from Mr Munir Dahiru at 11:50 a.m that a canoe had capsized.

“Upon receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 12:30 p.m. to bring out the victims’’ the statement said.

He said the mishap involved four persons — two persons –Sha’aban Bala, 35 and Rabiu Bashari, 30–died while two persons — Sani Shitu, 25, Jabir Sani, 30 — were rescued.

Abdullahi said the victims boarded the canoe from Zangon Durgu to Kanya village when the incident occurred.

“The dead victims were handed over to Shafi’u Abdullahi-Gulu the Vice-Chairman of  Rimin Gado Local Government Area.

“The cause of the incident is under investigation”, he said.
