... As FRSC canvasses greater synergy with sister agencies to check drunk driving***

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi State has confirmed that three persons died in Tuesday’s auto crash on the Bauchi-Gombe Road.

The Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, made the confirmation on Wednesday in an interview with the newsmen in Bauchi.

Abdullahi said that two other persons sustained serious injuries in the accident, which occured around 8.30 p.m., when two vehicles had a head-on collision.

He said that it took the corps barely 26 minutes to arrive at the scene of the crash.

According to him, the accident involved an Opel Vectra car, with Reg. No. DSA 120 AA and a Toyota Hiace, with Reg. No. GME 74 YX.

Abdullahi blamed the accident on a burst tyre in one of the vehicles, adding that the Toyota Hiace immediately went up in flames.

He said: “Six people were involved in the crash and they are all males.

“Three died on the spot, two sustained injuries and one was unhurt.”

He said the injured persons were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital for treatments, while the remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue.

Abdullahi advised motorists to ensure that all their vehicle parts were in good condition before embarking on a journey.

“Motorists should always be conscious of road traffic rules and regulations as well as weather conditions at all times.

In the meantime, the Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has called for greater synergy with sister agencies to check drunk driving, particularly by articulated vehicles drivers.

The Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, made this known on Wednesday at Sango-Ota, Ogun State, when he spoke with the newsmen.

He said the synergy had become imperative because ensuring safety on the road is a responsibility of all.

Umar said road safety must be jointly ensured by all stakeholders in the transport sector, just as he expressed displeasure that some road accidents resulted from carelessness, impatience and drunk driving.

“A synergy with sister agencies would drastically reduce the activities of these drunk drivers and achieve better results.

“In addition, the FRSC is doing its best to checkmate erring drivers by apprehending them,’’ he said.

He said motorists must always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition and they must obey speed limits and road signs to stay alive.

Umar admonished motorists who were fond of taking alcohol and other intoxicants before going behind the wheel to desist as he reiterated FRSC’s determination to apprehend drunk drivers to ensure road safety.
