Authorities on Wednesday said nine people were killed when cattle rustlers attacked a village in eastern South Sudan.

Area Commissioner, Dak Bol, said the heavily armed attackers wounded six others and stole about 150 animals when raiding a cattle camp in the village of Wenyiik in Beech state.

“We have confirmed nine people’s deaths after the armed raiders launched an attack,” said Bol.

The identity of the attackers remained unclear on Wednesday, but authorities suspect residents from neighbouring Boma State to be behind the raid.

Cattle raiding has occurred for centuries in the East African nation, with the attacks often carrying an ethnic component.

The local military official told IRNA that the debris of the drone had been transferred to a secure place for further investigations.

“No details about the drone are available so far.

“We are waiting for the release of the results of investigations by the experts,’’ the official said.
