…PDP says Adesina’s re-election well deserved***
The Great Ife Alumni Association has congratulated its member, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on his re-election for a second term.
Adesina was re-elected at the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the bank which held virtually between Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.
This is contained in a statement signed by its Worldwide President, Engr. Wale Olaleye.
“As a body of accomplished professionals, technocrats, academics and industry players in various parts of the world, we know the kind of hard work and vision that informed Adesina’s stellar achievements,” the association said.
The association said during the first term of Adesina’s five critical areas defined his contribution to the development of Africa.
The alumni saluted Adesina for his five-point agenda, Feeding Africa, Lighting up Africa, Industrialising Africa, Integrating Africa, and improving the quality of lives of Africans.
The alumni body said “Adesina’s visionary leadership championed an increase in the bank’s share capital from 93 billion dollars to 208 billion dollars during his first term.
“The AfDB Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) was consistently rated AAA with a stable outlook by global credit rating agencies, Fitch and Standard & Poor.”
The association expressed confidence that under Adesina’s leadership, the AfDB would continue in its trajectory of leading development efforts in Africa and helping countries on the continent achieve their highest potential.
“The Great Ife Alumni Association (worldwide) agrees with the African Union and friends of Africa that one good tenure deserves another.

“With Adesina at the helm, a more prosperous Africa that will contribute significantly to global prosperity is feasible.”
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, for his re-election to serve a second term in the regional bank.
The party gave the congratulatory message in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Thursday.
Ologbondiyan said the re-election of Adesina, a former Minister Of Agriculture, was not only earned but well-deserved.
Ologbondiyan said it was deserved in view of the competence and commitment Adesina had displayed in uplifting and promoting the bank’s operations since 2015, when he was first elected as its president.
He said, ”Adesina has attracted praises in bringing his deep knowledge in economic development to bear on the bank’s primary functions of making loans and equity investments for the socio-economic advancement of Regional Member Countries (RMC).
“The PDP commends Adesina for improving on the the bank’s key role of providing technical assistance for development projects and programs as well as promoting investment of public and private capital for development.”
Ologbondiyan noted that Adesina had remained a good ambassador of Nigeria in his display of high level of discipline, professionalism and utmost diligence in the discharge of his duties at the AfDB.
“The party particularly notes that Adesina’s high potentials were first brought to limelight when he was appointed by the PDP administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as minister of agriculture in 2010.
“The PDP notes with pride that potentials discovered by the inclusiveness of its administration have continued to bring honour to Nigeria both at the national and international arena,” he said.
