Alalade brace helps Kwara United to 3-0 win over Jigawa Stars

Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin recorded a resounding 3-0 win over visiting Jigawa Golden Stars on Sunday in a match which saw substitute Wasiu Alalade grabbing a brace.

The newsmen report that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 25 fixture played at the Kwara Stadium Complex also had Nosir Afeez scoring.

In a game the hosts dominated most of the proceedings, Michael Ohanu turned away Christopher Nwaeze’s shot aimed in the 12th minute with his head to leave his bench in anguish.

Jigawa Stars responded perfectly one minute later with a well-orchestrated team play, but Kwara United defenders tracked back to thwart the visitors’ promising attack.

The visitors failed to capitalise on a fine team play when Hadi Ado beat his maker and released a fine pass when his teammates were not close by in the 18th minute.

Afeez went on to score with a stunning strike from 35 yards in the 23rd minute, after his effort first hit the bar before landing behind Jigawa Stars’ goalkeeper Paul Godwin.

Jigawa Stars’ Abdullahi Lala missed a chance to draw his team level in the 27th minute when he played wide from close range inside Kwara United’s penalty area.

Kwara United then brought on Olawale Farayola and Wasiu Alalade for Michael Ohanu and Samuel Chisom just before the beginning of the second half, and the substitutes soon justified their inclusion.

Alalade doubled Kwara United’s advantage in the 48th minute with a bicycle kick inside the penalty area.

He almost registered his second goal of the match after meeting Kabiru Balogun’s pass, but for Jigawa Stars’ defenders prompt response of clearing their line three minutes later.

Issa Gata forced goalkeeper Paul to a fine save with a stunning left foot shot.

But the goalkeeper responded to this with the tip of his finger for a corner kick in the 56th minute.

Alalade tapped home Kwara United’s third goal of the match from close range in the 84th minute, after Farayola’s cut-back pass to put the game to bed.
