Big container ships collision in Busan, serious damages

…As Thai Navy Auxiliary tanker collided with Korean tanker, Gulf of Siam***

Panamax container ship SAFMARINE NOKWANDA struck Neopanamax container ship TIANJIN while berthing at Busan Container Terminal at around 0800 LT Mar 2.

 SAFMARINE NOKWANDA struck TIANJIN stern, inflicting serious cargo damages, with a number of container crushed and collapsed. Stern sustained structural damages. 

SAFMARINE NOKWANDA bow also suffered damages including breach, see photo. At the time of collision, TIANJIN was moored, SAFMARINE NOKWANDA was technically, under way. 

In the meantime, Royal Thai Navy Command on Mar 1 issued a statement describing the details of a collision between Thai Navy water supply tanker HTMS CHUANG and Korean tanker DONGYANG CHEMI, which occurred in the morning Feb 26 in Map Ta Put area, Rayong Province, southeast Thailand, Gulf of Siam.

Reportedly, tanker was under way after loading fresh water, but went out of control after engine failure, and allided with anchored DONGYANG CHEMI. HTMS CHUANG sustained bow dent, while Koeran tanker suffered hull breaches above waterline.

On Feb 27, DONGYANG CHEMI moved to Thai Navy Base Sattahip, probably for repairs, and for investigation in order to assess damages cost.
