… After Shittu’s visit to Talatu Isa.
There is a strong indication that grey areas hindering cordial working relationship between the Customs brokers and the Customs Service, PTML Command may have resolved, by a recent visit of Customs agents national leader, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, to the command.
The Maritime First learnt that the working visit of the agents’ leadership, involving all the National officers of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) was at the instance of the PTML Customs Area Controller (CAC) Mairo Talatu Isa also agreed on need for seamless communication, so as to foreclose future disagreement.
Specifically, the two parties brainstormed the issue of friction frequently emanating from the Valuation Unit, hitherto considered a sour point in the operation of the command, and resolved that a new-look Valuation Unit be assured.
Comptroller Mairo Talatu Isa however stressed the need for Chapter executives to always relay their grievances or complaints about Command officers to her, being rest assured that appropriate actions would be promptly taken; even as the National President of ANLCA Prince Shittu advised the CAC to always reach out to his office, whenever she perceives that issues were about to get out of her control, stating that he would always be willing to be part of the CAC’s efforts at shoring up the revenue profile of Nigeria Customs, as well as making sure that all stakeholders were appropriately catered for.
Meanwhile, the CAC- Talatu Isa has also confirmed that the design of the PTML-ANLCA proposed secretariat, presented to her on resumption, has been approved by her management, and forwarded to Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
She was equally emphatic that as soon as approval is granted by NPA, no stone would be left unturned, in the realisation of the project, assuring that every stakeholder would be granted optimal platform, to assist in sustaining the rising revenue collection of the command.
It was also learnt that shortly after the end of the fence mending parley, the two parties jointly paid a courtesy call on the Grimaldi/PTML management, flagging off another round of deliberation with the MD/CEO of Grimaldi, Mr Rosso , on how an enduring cordial working relationship could be guaranteed.
Mr Rosso who was unhappy with fact that in spite of all his efforts at automating transactions at PTML, more and more touts were still infiltrating the premises, under the cover of customs brokerage, then pleaded with Shittu, to work hard on ways and means of checkmating the nuisance.
He however congratulated ANLCA for the WCO award, as the National President did same, urging the terminal to continue to blaze the trail of an efficient terminal operation, for others to follow.
The PTML executives was led by Prince Bola Adesokan.
Prince Shittu urged the management to sustain the collaborative effort existing between his organisation and custom Agents, because it’s the best for Nigeria.
Mr Rosso also pledged to support the actualization of a secretariat for the ANLCA chapter, as he unfolded plans to beautify the entire environment of PTML.
