ELECTIONS: FG imposes restrictions on cross-boarder movements

There will be no movements across the entire nation’s land borders with effect from 12pm today Friday, Feb. 15 to Sunday Feb. 17, 2019, as part of the efforts to ensure a free and fair Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, the Federal Government has declared.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau who made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja, and directed the nation’s security institutions and agencies to take immediate and decisive measures, to ensure full compliance.

Subsequently, the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Muhammad Babandede and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in Abuja also on Thursday took appropriate actions, issuing related directives towards ensuring total compliance.

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has promptly ordered a restriction on vehicular movement on Saturday, from 6am to 6p, towards “preventing hoodlums and criminally-minded elements from hijacking and disrupting the electoral process.”

The Police Image-maker, Frank Mba assured Nigerians of full police protection, enjoining them to ensure they vote, without anxiety, as the nation’s security agencies would provide very conducive environment, needed for credible polls.

 “In furtherance of the overall interest of public order, public well-being and safety and national security as it relates to the general elections billed to take place on Saturday, February 16, 2019, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from 6am to 6pm on Saturday”, Adamu indicated further, regreting every inconvenience.

Adamu warned also, against every act of criminality, particularly, vote-buying, hate speech, fake news, ballot box-snatching, pledging to visit anyone caught with the full wrath of the law.
