Female Suicide Bomber Kills 8, Injures 42

A female suicide bomber suspected to be Boko Haram member yesterday detonated bombs wired to her body, killing eight persons and injuring 42 others.

LEADERSHIP gathered that eight persons have been confirmed dead after the female bomber, 22, targeted a GSM village market in Potiskum town, Yobe State.

The incident, which was occurred at about 1:20pm along Muhammad Idriss Way, where dealer in second-hand handsets usually display their goods at GSM village (Kasuwar Tsaye).

A businessman, Isa Audu, who escaped the bomb blast, said he counted eight dead victims.

“I was inside the mosque when I had the sound of a blast around 1:20pm, so I tried to run, and minutes later we discovered the blast was near GSM village,” he said.

A member of the GSM market association, Isa Adamu Isa, told LEADERSHIP that he saw several corpses which were later evacuated to the Potiskum General Hospital, while many other wounded victims had been referred to Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, and Azare in Bauchi State, for medical attention.

“We were at the general hospital to assist the hospital management and count the dead bodies. In fact, I saw eight dead bodies and many ambulance vehicles bringing in victims of the blast; 42 were injured,” he said.

A source from the Potiskum Division Police confirmed the casualty figures, adding that policemen and some soldiers were still busy conveying victims from the scene.
