FG to dredge Benue River, link it to Adamawa, neighbouring States- SGF

The dredging of the River Benue may flag off before the end of this year, to link some neighbouring States, particularly Adamawa State.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha indicated this on Tuesday, while assuring the people of Adamawa State of Federal Government’s commitment to revamp inland waterways infrastructure, in a bid to boost water transportation in the state.

Speaking while welcoming the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, led by a former Governor of the State, Sen. Muhammed Jibirilla, which paid him a solidarity visit in Abuja, over his reappointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, Mustapha said the federal government is already, seriously working on a plan to dredge the River Benue to link up with neighbouring states and ease transportation challenges facing communities in the area.

He also appreciated the delegation, while attributing his success during his first tenure in office, to stakeholders’ support all over the country especially those from Adamawa state.

Speaking earlier on their mission, Sen. Muhammed Jibirill, the leader of the delegation, expressed gratitude to God for Mustapha’s reappointment, stressing that the SGF has presented the State in superlative terms, and thanked Buhari for finding him worthy of reappointment.

Also, Alhaji Mustapha Salihu, National Vice Chairman, APC North-East, congratulated Musptapha, saying that his reappointment is a pride to the state.

“We have come to celebrate you because of your commitment, and for you to remain scandal free during your second tenure in office.

“It is a pride to the party and entire state,” he said.
