…Waylay two Caskets, concealing N60,000 petrol in Jerry cans***
Luck ran out on smugglers operating withing the Kaduna axis, as the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone B, an anti-smuggling arm of Nigeria Customs Service in Kaduna, intercepted and impounded smuggled goods, estimated at N52.17 million.
The FOU Command which announced this on Wednesday, specifically indicated that the whooping seizures were recorded, within five days.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Usman highlighted this in Kaduna, noting that Customs operatives swooped on 680 bags of rice while being re-bagged in local sacks, when 210 bags of smuggled rice were intercepted, as they were being conveyed in a truck with the logo of Dangote.
He explained that other goods also seized, included 526 Jerry cans of smuggled vegetable oil and 25 bales of second hand clothing, adding that the seizures were made along Katsina-Dutsima axis and on Dabai-Zaria road.

He however said no arrest was made by the operatives, but assured that the command would not relent in its efforts in tackling smuggling activities in the zone.
In another development, the joint anti-bunkering team of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday waylaid 23 Jerry cans of petrol, valued about N60,000 at Idiroko border, concealed inside two caskets.
Customs Area Command Spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada who confirmed it, noted that the fuel lading coffins were abandoned in a Mazda 626 with Lagos registration number LSD 617 CW.
“In continuation of the fight against smuggling, a customs joint special taskforce of Ogun I Command, Federal Operation Unit Zone “A” and CGC’s Strike Force intercepted 13 jerry cans of 25 litres and six jerry cans of 10 litres of PMS concealed clandestinely in two caskets.
“The said items were conveyed by a daredevil smuggler with the intention of smuggling the items across the border to a neighbouring country in a Mazda 626 with Lagos registration number LSD 617 CW”, Maiwada indicated further, restating Customs zero-tolerance for every form of smuggling.
