KLT Customs Collect N44.36bn in 2022; Opens Clinic for Officers

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Customs command of the Nigeria Customs Service collected N44.36 billion in revenue in 2022.

This feat represents a 21 percent increase when compared to the N36.69 billion generated in 2021.

Addressing the press, the Area Controller of the command, ACG HJ Swomen said that despite some challenges the command still improved in revenue generation.

According to him, the inhibiting factors include traffic congestion, dilapidated roads and ongoing road construction on the popular Oshodi – Apapa Expressway, all of which posed a big challenge to transferring containers from the mother ports to the command.

The controller stated that in the area of anti-smuggling, the command raised its head up by ensuring that containers with infractions did not escape the eagle eyes of the officers.
As a result of this, the command made a seizure of 32 containers.
Twenty-nine of the containers are 40ft while three are 20ft containers.
They contained assorted items with a total duty paid value of N737, 578,939.
The newly promoted ACG who is set to bow out and resume at Abuja headquarters of Customs as Acting ACG Excise/FTZ highlighted other achievements as:
*Increase in the number of terminals by three, i.e Bestaf, Tenzik and Sundial Terminals for imports and exports;
* Establishment of a Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC)/ One Stop Shop for the command comprising strategic units to address issues whenever they arise;
*Harmonious working relationship between the command and other government/security agencies and stakeholders; and
*Establishment of a staff clinic for the command just commissioned by the Zonal Coordinator, ACG A.M Aremu.
Earlier while commissioning the Col. Hameed I. Ali Staff Clinic, controller said he was deeply honoured to welcome the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, ACG A.M Aremu to the command.
ACG Swomen noted that KLT Command is unique amongst the maritime Commands in Lagos as the only off-Dock Command, which implies that the Command is dependent on its sister Commands - Apapa, Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) and Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) for transfers of containers.
He also expressed appreciation to the Area Controllers of Apapa, TCIP, PTML and Western Marine Command.

He stated that it is pertinent to note that the vision could not have been realized without the support and contributions of critical stakeholders, all of whom he appreciated.
The controller further appreciated the Traffic Manager, Nigeria Ports Authority and other government and security agencies for their cooperation and harmonious working relationship.
He explained that the vision for the setting up of the Clinic is in line with the CGC's innovative drive for the assurance of the Medical Welfare of Officers and Men of the Service.
According to him, the command observed the need for a clinic in this area to serve not only Officers and Men of the Command but also other stakeholders.

He hinted that the Clinic would also
serve to host Medical Teams visiting from Headquarters and the Zonal office.

ACG Swomen hoped that the Clinic should also boost the morale and welfare of Officers and Men to deliver on the mandate of Revenue Collection, Anti-smuggling and Trade Facilitation.

She charged other controllers to borrow a leaf from what has just happened in KLT and ensure that they leave the commands they oversee better than they met them.
