Rich Benin Culture powers Service as Ogbeifuns honour Matriarch in Thanksgiving

…Apostle Ogbomwaa harps on Legacy of Righteous parents!***

The General Superintendent of Christ Apostolic Church of God’s Mission (CACGM), Apostle Godspower Ogbomwaa on Sunday stressed the importance of legacy, noting that if ever there was something every parent must struggle to leave behind for the children at death, it must be a ‘righteous legacy’.

“If there’s anything we must acquire and struggle to handover to our children, it is Godly legacy. Leave true legacy to your children and there would be peace with them, even if there’s neither house nor money”, the revered man of God charged, during the sermon marking the Thanksgiving Service by the Ogbeifun family in Benin City, in honour of the family’s Matriarch, Deaconness Cecilia Izogie Ogbeifun.

Preaching from the ‘First Reading’ of the Bible taken by the nation’s foremost shipping mogul, Engr. Greg Utowen Ogbeifun taken from 1King Chapter 2 Verses 1-4; the General Superintendent spoke extensively on “The Legacy of Righteous parents!”; recalling what King David told his son, King Solomon.

“When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

Vs 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,”he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go 4 and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfullybefore me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel….’

Dwelling copiously on 1king 2 : 2, Apostle Ogbomwaa lauded the Iyase of Benin kingdom for his commitment to punctuality, despite being over 80 years; and the Matriarch for being a virtuous woman.

He stressed that “Not all men are good men; and not all husbands are good husbands”, tasked Nigerians to appreciate King David perfectly, by grooming their children, through good education, fear of God, diligence and strength of character.

“If you are lazy, even if they leave you with millions, in six months they would be gone.

“Learn to be strong and learn to be a man!

He highlighted that he had seen children who inherited great fortunes from their late parents, but only 10 years later, they had fought severally amongst themselves, killed a few of their siblings and ended up in court, to wash their dirty linens.

He praised David for nurturing Solomon into a matured man; a man who thought deeply before acting, adding that but for this, Solomon would have wrecked both the family name and fortunes.

Dovetailing to the Matriarch, Apostle Ogbomwaa commended her, for adhering to King David’s words, emphasizing that the late Deaconness had 10 Children and nurtured everyone of them to acquire good education, diligence, and to mature in the fear of God, adding that these qualities made them United and successful in life.

He was particularly enamoured to the Matriarch’s unblemished virtues; more so, in the Service of God; and in the art of building up her children to be diligent, focused and virtuous too, in the Service of God and the community.

The General Superintendent recalled that when his own father died, all he inherited was his walking stick; while his junior brother got his late father’s handkerchief. Today, they are both better and more successful than their late father.

“David taught Solomon to depend on God as the Source of all supplies.

“Don’t live by what they say or prophecy. Live by God’s word. God’s word says Whatever you lay your hands upon, He would bless. So fear God and walk in His way.

“Don’t fear the witches. Most often, they are afraid of you. If not, why do they only fly in the night?!

“Remember God when it is well with you. Not only when things are unfavourable. Don’t forget Him when you become prosperous. You are always His child!

“Don’t let your wealth enter into your head. In other climes, the millionaires wear jeans trousers and simple shirts. Live simple. Help others.

“Give to your children, good education, the fear of God and diligence.

“And above all, let us always look at the legacy we are leaving behind; and also, to always remember, that whatsoever a man sows, he shall reap!”

It would be recalled that Deaconness Cecilia Izogie Ogbeifun passed on to glory in January this year, at a ripe age of 100 years, having lived a highly selfless and totally fulfilled Christian life. She was buried beside her husband in Benin, on March 7, 2019, after which the family held a Thanksgiving Service in her honour, yesterday, March 10, 2019.
