SEASON OF STRIKES: Pay Earned Allowance owed us, SSANU Tells FG

Nigeria may have finally moved into its season of strikes as the Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU),Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) branch, Mr Ademola Oketunde on Tuesday also tasked the Federal Government to pay the earned allowance owed his members, or watch members down tool.

Same Tuesday, 18 December 18, gunmen killed former chief of defence staff, Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh (retd.) in his car, as he drove from his farm, on the Abuja -Keffi Road.

Oketunde who indicated this in Ile-Ife, stressed that three unions in universities, the SSANU, Non-Academic Staff Union  (NASU) and National Association Academic Technologists (NAAT) actually entered into an agreement with the Federal Government in 2009  on the payment of earned allowance, 

The chairman stated that the three unions also agreed on the sharing formula for the fund when released.

He, however,  lamented the non-release of the fund,urging the Federal Government to fulfil its part of the agreement.

Oketunde also urged the government to implement the judgment of the National Industrial Court ordering the reinstatement of personnel of the staff schools back to the payroll of the universities, and not unnecessarily encourage the current peace at the OAU, lle lfe to be disrupted.

Meanwhile, gunmen, according to the Nigerian Air Force, Tuesday kill the former chief of defence staff, Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh(retd), after they attacked his vehicle on the Abuja-Keffi Road, while returning from his farm. He was 61 years old. 

The Air Force Spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said Badeh died from gun wounds sustained during the attack.

“It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce the unfortunate demise of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, who died today, 18 Dec 18, from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road..

He became the 18th Chief of Air Staff in October 2012; got appointed as Chief of Defence Staff in January 2014; was retired July 2015 by Buhari and had since faced EFCC prosecution over stealing of defence money, while in office.
