… As FRSC advises motorists: ‘Avoid attitudes that can lead to road crashes, death!’***
Two persons died in an accident involving two vehicles on the Ore-Benin Highway on Sunday.
Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr Ahmed Umar, said on Monday that eight other persons sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident.
He told the newsmen at Ota, Ogun State, that the accident occurred at about 9.30 p.m. after “J4, Ogbere’’ in the Ogun State part of the highway.
Umar said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with Registration Number APP 867 XZ and a Benz truck marked KJA 376 XN.
The sector Commander added that 10 persons, five males and five females, were involved in the accident which took the lives of two of the male travellers.

Umar blamed the accident on excessive speeding and possible loss of control of one of the vehicles by the driver.
“Corpses of the victims have been deposited at an Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, morgue. Survivors are also receiving treatment at the Ijebu-Ode hospital hosting the morgue,’’ he said.
Umar advised motorists against excessive speeding and advised against night travels, especially when visibility is poor.
He commiserated with the families of the victims and urged them to contact FRSC Ogbere Outpost for additional information.
In the meantime, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, has advised motorists and Nigerians in general to avoid attitudes that can lead to road traffic crashes and death.
Sector Commander Uche Chukwurah gave the advice on Sunday during a church service in commemoration of the 2021 Africa Road Safety Day and World Day Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Ibadan.
The newsmen report that the celebration of the Day started on Monday with sensitising motorists to comply with road rules, visits to motor parts and distribution of flyers, among others.
The celebration also witnessed a Jumat service on Friday and a church service on Sunday.
Chukwurah said that the celebration, which was a global event, was to remember those that lost their lives or sustained varying degrees of injuries on the road.
She said the lesson for motorists was for them to avoid anything that could lead to road traffic crashes and death.
The sector commander said that road crashes might not occur if all adhered to the rules and regulations while on the road.
“All Nigerians and motorists should have in their minds that their actions and inactions could lead to road crashes, death and injury.
“That is why they should endeavour to obey traffic rules and regulations while on the road.
“We are using this avenue to tell all motorists to kill the speed before it killed them and avoid overloading, speeding, among others,” Chukwurah said.
She said that the aspiration of the corps was to have a situation where all road users obey rules and regulations on the road while driving.
In his sermon, the Very Rev. David Olagbaju of the Cathedral of Saint James the Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, called on Nigerians to fear God in their deeds.
Olagbaju later prayed for the victims of road traffic crashes and God’s protection of FRSC officials.
