Mr Idris Abiola-Ajimobi, son of the late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Tuesday declared his interest to contest the Ibadan South-West State Constituency II seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.
Abiola-Ajimobi made the declaration while addressing the party leaders in his constituency in Ibadan.
The newsmen report that the son of the former governor also presented a Letter of Interest to contest the seat to the party leaders.
Newsmen report that the party leaders led by its Chairman in the council, Mr Sunday Babalola, also met with all the aspirants from the local government, contesting various elective positions on the platform of APC.
He urged the party leaders to support his aspiration, which he said, was his childhood dream of serving humanity.
“It has always been my childhood dream to serve humanity and presenting myself to serve the good people of Ibadan South-West Constituency II, which will avail me of the opportunity to achieve this dream,” Abiola-Ajimobi said.
The aspirant told the leaders that he was before them as a son, who needed their support and prayers to achieve the dream, adding that he could not do it without them.
“I have come before you as your son, to plead for your support and prayers as I cannot do this alone without you,” he said.
“I know that lots of us here know my father and the legacy he left behind (May his soul rest in perfect peace).
“Also, his grandfather, Alhaji Ganiu Ajimobi, who served the good people of Ibadan South-West Constituency II during the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s regime in the Western Region.
“We shouldn’t let these legacies die. I will like to build on his legacies while charting a course of my own to unite our people and bring the dividends of democracy close to them,” he said.
According to him, with your support and the grace of the Almighty, we shall be victorious. Together we can.”
Babalola, in his remarks, welcomes Ajimobi’s son into the race, describing it as a good development having people aspiring to serve the people, party and the nation.
In another development, a Lagos lawmaker, Mr Setonji David, says if APC and Nigerians give Sen. Bola Tinubu the opportunity to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, he will change Nigeria’s story for good.
David, the Chairman, of Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Publicity, Strategy and Security made these remarks in an interview with the newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to him, the type of president Nigeria needs in 2023 is in Tinubu, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the APC.
Hon. David Setonji, Spokesman, Lagos State House of Assembly.
David, representing Badagry Constituency II in the assembly, said: “He (Tinubu) is the man that can deliver this country.
He is in the best position to help us move forward.
“He has done a lot in Lagos state as a former governor and this is quite visible to everybody to see and that is why we are praying that if given the opportunity, he will replicate it at the Federal level.
“So, the best material as of today is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
We believe that this country will give him the opportunity and he will change our story for good,” he said.
According to him, if the party is using a consensus arrangement to pick its presidential candidate, Tinubu should be the consensus candidate of APC.
“We should all concede to Asiwaju to be President.
I plead with my party leaders to concede the presidential ticket of APC to Tinubu.
“If we go to the field for primaries, I plead with delegates that we all vote for Tinubu.
“Obviously, Tinubu has the solution to some of the challenges facing this nation,” he said.
David said that Tinubu, who revamped the Lagos state economy when he was governor, could re-jig the nation’s economy.
“If he gets to the federal level, the man (TInubu) has ideas that can help this country, he has done a lot for us in Lagos,” David added.
Newsmen report that Tinubu is among many presidential aspirants jostling for the ruling APC ticket for the 2023 presidential election.
