Troops neutralise 47 terrorists, rescued Chibok girl

Troops of Operation of Hadin Kai have in the last two weeks eliminated no fewer than 47 terrorists and rescued Mary Dauda, one of the school girls abducted in 2014  at Chibok in Borno.

Maj-Gen Bernard Onyeuko, Director, Defence Media Operations, said this at the Defence Headquarters bi-weekly briefing on Thursday in Abuja.

Onyeuko said that the troops had on June 12, encountered the terrorists while clearing their enclave in Gazuwa in Bama Local Government Area of Borno.

He said that the camp, which was called Markas or Headquarters, harboured a large number of the terrorists and their families.

According to him, about 47 terrorists were neutralised including their top commanders after a fierce battle.

In the rescue of the Chibok girl, Onyeuko said the troops of 26 Task Force Brigade on clearance operation at Ngoshe intercepted Miss Mary Dauda, 27 years old with her child.

He said the victim, who was on serial 46 on the Chibok girls list of 2014, was suspected to have escaped from Gara in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

He added that the rescued mother and child were currently in the custody of the military for medical checkups and rehabilitation.

“On June 6, troops rescued five abducted victims who were kidnapped by the terrorist who had earlier in the day, set ablaze two petrol tankers and two other vehicles.

“This was achieved in conjunction with Air Component of who engaged the terrorists with helicopter gunship some of the criminals were neutralised and the three gun trucks abandoned by the terrorists were recovered,” he said.

Onyeuko said that a total of 57,004 of Boko Haram terrorists and their families, comprising 12,547 males, 17,027 females and 27,430 children had surrendered.

He added that all surrendered and items recovered had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

In another development, the Police Command in Kaduna State says its operatives killed 4 suspected bandits, recovered firearms and ammunition, and an operational vehicle.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammad Jalige, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday.

Jalige said that the successful operation was a sequel to its sustained onslaught against banditry and other criminal elements in the State.

“The operatives of the Special Tactical Squad, Force Headquarters, Abuja (STS), in conjunction with Operation Yaki, Kaduna State Command, on June 15, at about 06:50hrs, while on the trail of suspected bandits intercepted their target along Saminaka-Jos expressway.

According to him, the suspects were in a blue-coloured Sharon vehicle driven by one of the suspects, a 31-year-old man from Vom town in Jos South Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State.

The PPRO said “The suspected bandits, on sensing an unavoidable danger, stopped while on their way to deliver some dangerous weapons to their cohorts.

“They immediately engaged the operatives firing sporadically.

However, the operatives with tactical precision were able to terminally injure four suspects.

“The injured suspects were evacuated to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, where they were pronounced dead by a medical doctor.”

Jalige further said that the encounter lasted for about 30 minutes and the firepower of the Police forced them to retreat into the forest with bullet wounds.

He said that when a search was conducted on their vehicle and around the vicinity, one Ak49 rifle loaded with six rounds of live ammunition, one Ak47 rifle, one empty magazine, 134 rounds of different calibers of live ammunition and their operational vehicle were recovered.

He also disclosed that the operation led to the arrest of a female accomplice.

He said that the female accomplice in the course of the investigation confessed to be supplying arms and ammunition to bandits within Kaduna state.

Jalige said discreet investigation into the case has been instituted with a view to unravelling the identities of other members of the criminal gang.

He said that the police are also investigating the source of the suspects’ dangerous weapons in order to avert future occurrences and make the criminals to face the full wrath of the law.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna Command, Mr Yekinin  Ayoku, applauded “this clinically executed intelligence-led tactical operation that has occasioned this breakthrough.”

He reassured the good people of Kaduna State that the Command would be unrelenting under the direction of the Inspector General of Police.

He said the command would also be relentless with the robust support from the State Government and the active synergy with other security agencies in the fight against crime.

“The CP equally called on members of the public to continue to support the Police with useful information about all and sundry criminal activities.

“The Police under his watch would promptly treat such information with dispatch and absolute confidentiality,” Jalige said.

Kaduna: Police Nab 280 Suspects, Rescue 158 Kidnapped Victims

Kidnappers hotbed, Kaduna state may finally be set for relative peace as the Police Command in Kaduna said Its operatives have arrested 280 suspected criminals and rescued 158 kidnapped victims from January to date.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP  Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this at a press briefing at the command on Thursday in Kaduna.

Adejobi said, ”I am pleased to highlight the significant achievements in our crime-fighting endeavours, with a particular focus on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway corridor, and communities in Kaduna State, spanning from January to date.

“Notably, I would like to draw attention to a strategic initiative implemented along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, which has significantly contributed to our successes.”

According to him, under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, a helicopter has been deployed to serve as an escort for trains using the route.

It provides aerial support for ground troops from the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies.

“It has been deployed along the corridor as a proactive measure to prevent attacks and act as a first responder in the event of any untoward incidents,” Adejobi said.

Arms and ammunition recovered by police operatives on Thursday in Kaduna.

 He said this proactive measure has proven instrumental in enhancing security along the corridor, ultimately safeguarding the lives and property of commuters and residents of the adjourning communities along the route.

The Police spokesperson said, ”During this period, our proactive measures and relentless pursuit of criminal elements have resulted in remarkable outcomes.

”This included the arrest of 81 armed robbery suspects, 40 kidnap suspects, 73 murder/homicide suspects, 36 rape suspects, 22 suspects involved in cult-related crimes, and 28 suspects engaged in other criminal activities.

 “We have successfully recovered 16 firearms of various types, along with 226 ammunition of diverse calibres.

”Additionally, our operations have led to the retrieval of 28 stolen vehicles, over 200 harmful weapons, and 600 bags of fertilizers.

“A total of N3.3 million, previously paid as ransom to kidnappers, has been successfully recovered, while our swift and coordinated efforts have resulted in the safe rescue of 158 kidnapped victims, all of whom have been reunited with their families unharmed.”

The Force PPRO  said the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of I-G Kayode  Egbetokun, remains steadfast in its resolve to uphold the rule of law, ensure the safety and security of all citizens, and combat criminal activities across the country.

He said these recent achievements along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway underscored the zeal of the Force in fulfilling its mandate of protecting lives and property.

“This special intervention and operation would be replicated in other major expressways and cities across the country by establishing the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by the I-G.

 The Force Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, addressing the press on Thursday in Kaduna.

Adejobi  said, “We will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, employ innovative strategies, and harness the full force of the law to root out criminal elements and create a conducive environment for peaceful coexistence and socio-economic development.

“As we forge ahead, the Nigeria Police Force extends its gratitude to members of the public for their continued support and cooperation.

“Together, we will build safer communities, foster trust between the police and citizens, and strive towards a Nigeria where all individuals can live without fear of crime or violence.“

NDLEA nabs male passenger carrying 4,000 tramadol pills in MMIA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a male passenger carrying 4,000 tramadol pills at the Muhammad Murtala International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos

This is contained in a statement by the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi on Sunday in Abuja.

Babafemi said that NDLEA officers at the gate ‘C ‘departure hall of the Lagos airport on Friday foiled the suspect’s attempt to export the pills to Malpensa, Italy on an Ethiopian Airline flight.

He said that the psychoactive substance was found concealed in women’s wear and granulated melon packed in the suspect’s backpack and another bag containing food items.

“In his statement, the suspect who is a frequent flyer confessed he was hired for 700 Euros on successful delivery of the consignment in Italy, “ he said.

Meanwhile, In Bayelsa, NDLEA operatives on  April 24 arrested a 28-year-old woman in Amarata area of Yenagoa.

Babafemi said that she was arrested for producing and distributing cakes laced with illicit drugs especially cannabis sativa.

According to him, at the time of her arrest, a substantial number of the drugged cakes weighing 1.5kg were recovered from her.

Also, A 20-year-old hair stylist, and a dispatch rider, were arrested on March 10 by NDLEA operatives in Yenagoa for a similar offence.

In the same vein and were arrested with 24,180 ampoules of pentazocine injection weighing 135.5 kilograms at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.

Babafemi said that a teenager was also nabbed with 20.700kg of cannabis when his house in Shuware area of Mubi, Adamawa state was raided on April 26.

In another development, No less than 310.7kg of cannabis was recovered on April 25 when NDLEA operatives raided parts of Mushin in Lagos state.

19 Burnt To Death In Kogi Auto Crash – FRSC

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu stated in Abuja that the crash involved a Dangote Cement truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.

He stated that it took operatives of the FRSC, battling through the accompanying inferno, three hours to rescue two surviving victims of the crash.

Agwu added that the Toyota bus was travelling from Kano and was on its lane when the Dangote truck driver travelling from Port Harcourt wrongfully overtook a vehicle and collided head-on with the bus.

“The impact of the collision resulted in an inferno that burnt the victims to death.

“The crash, which was caused by route violation and wrongful overtaking, involved 22 persons, all male.

“Unfortunately, 19 persons out of the 22 victims were killed, while one was injured.

“The two victims who got rescued by FRSC operatives survived without injuries because they complied with traffic regulations on the compulsory use of seatbelts.

“Corpses retrieved from the crash were deposited at Okene General Hospital,’’ Agwu stated.

Agwu assured that the driver of the Dangote truck would be prosecuted following directives earlier issued by the Corps Marshal, Alhaji Dauda Ali-Biu.

Ali-Biu had in the past called on the judiciary, the leadership of transport unions and other relevant stakeholders to join hands with the FRSC to restore sanity to Nigerian roads through speedy and effective prosecution.
